The dataset is constructed from Open Street Map “roads” shapefiles downloaded through Geofabrik by extracting all features where attribute bridges=1. It should be noted that the dataset contains major bridges and all other smaller constructions that have been classified as bridges in Open Street Map. The coverage for the dataset is whole Baltic. Bridges on land has been removed. This was done with water area polygon provided by OSM by which all bridges that didn’t touch water were clipped out. Original data is not quality assured and is based on a dataset that can be freely modified by all users. Estonian bridge between Saaremaa and Muhu island was received from Ministry of the Environment of Estonia. The dataset was approved by all HELCOM Contracting Parties in the HOLAS II Human activities data review process during first quarter of 2017.
