The measured average chlorophyll-a is a combined estimate of two types of data: 1) in-situ measurements from oceanographic monitoring data (surface water 0-10 m) and 2) earth observation data. The open sea areas have been assessed based on HELCOM Monitoring data and earth observation data for year 2011 (ENVISAT/MERIS instrument observations with FUB bio-optical model). Results for coastal areas are based on national WFD results. It has been validated by SYKE, and kept at the eutrophication assessment database hosted by ICES. For the assessment period 2011-2016, data was available only during 2011. 3) FerryBox flow-through data is reported to ICES by Contracting Parties, to be included into the eutrophication assessment database.
