Relative distribution of nutrient concentration - Total Nitrogen (HOLAS 2)
Concentration of nitrogen pressure layer is interpolated from annual seasonal average of total nitrogen concentrations from surface waters (0-10 m) extracted from ICES’s oceanographic database, database of Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, EEA’s Eionet database and Data from Gulf of Finland year 2014.
The points were interpolated to cover the entire Baltic Sea with Spline with barriers interpolation method. Values were log-transformed and normalised (more detailed description below).

Point wise concentration values (µmol / l) were aggregated to 5x5km grid and annual seasonal averages (2011-2016) were calculated per grid cell (winter: december, january, february; spring: march, april, may; summer: june, july, august; autumn: september, october, november). Grid values were interpolated to 1x1km grid with "spline with barriers" method. A mild generalisation was applied for the layer.
All values above 95 percentile and under 5 percentile were grouped together to avoid over-influence of extreme values. Layer was log-transformed and normalised.
