Introduction of radionuclides HOLAS 3
Introduction of radionuclides is based on HELCOM MORS discharge data (2016-2020) . Annual averages of CO60, CS137 and SR90 from the period 2016-2020 per nuclear power plant. Gradual buffer around outlet to 10km distance (Type B decline).
10 km buffer with linear decline composed of 5 rings from discharges of radioactive substances (Type B decline)12.

Data source:
See separate fact sheet on Discharges of radioactive substances from NPPs.
Data quality: The annual discharges of radioactive substances were reported from all of the operational nuclear power plants. Some gaps may occur in the radioactive discharge data.
Attribute information: Introduction of Cesium-137, Strontium-90, and Cobalt-60 in Bq
Spatial coverage: Entire Baltic Sea.
Spatial resolution: Original data as points, 10 km impact distance applied from the outlets and finally converted to 1 km x 1 km grid.
Agreed aggregation method applied on HOLAS II used. Annual decay-corrected averages for CS-137, SR-90 and CO-60 were summed, given weight according to the linear decline and normalized.
